Taraf: “Remove the junta from their posts,” read the top headline in the daily yesterday, quoting remarks from Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç, who said that all the members of a junta in the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) that was involved in the preparation of a plot to destroy the government should be removed from their posts. After the original version of the document detailing the army plot was discovered, Arınç said: “Now it is time to take the necessary action. It is time to clear the military’s name of controversy.” Milliyet: “They should come in a circumspect manner,” the daily reported in its main headline yesterday, quoting remarks from President Abdullah Gül about the members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) who plan to surrender to Turkish security forces in line with an initiative launched by the government to resolve the Kurdish problem. “Turkey’s terrorism problem should end this year. Everyone [the PKK members] should come to Turkey in a circumspect manner and reunite with their families. Our laws allow this,” Gül said.
Yeni Şafak: In its lead article, the daily quoted Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who said it was unacceptable for the Republic of Turkey to tolerate a military plot to destroy the government. “I hope that what has been written on this issue so far turns out to be wrong. Turkey cannot tolerate such a thing. It is absolutely impossible for the TSK to remain under the shadow of these charges,” said Erdoğan.
