In a written statement released on Monday, the two bodies announced that the protocol was signed with the aim of establishing a more competitive, fairer and healthier public procurement system.
KİK Chairman Hasan Gül stated that the collaboration between the two institutions, both of which are considered experts in the area of competition, is of great importance. Pointing out that public procurement is one of the most important tools for achieving both economic and social development in countries, Gül said public procurement is an almost TL 100 billion market in Turkey. For this reason, he added, establishing a transparent, competitive and efficient public procurement system will be a significant contribution to the economy.
Noting that imperfect conditions of competition prevailing in the market are one of the major shortcomings of the system, Gül said the protocol aims at building a system that prevents all possible violations of competitive rules and at establishing a perfect competitive market.
Competition Authority Vice Chairman Nurettin Kaldırımcı stressed that ensuring competition in the market is both the most important and the most difficult dimension of competition policy.
