Speaking to the press after the one-hour meeting at the Prime Ministry, Gaby said he expressed his country's concerns over the airing of the series, which was formally protested by Israel. Arınç, who is responsible for TRT, explained how TRT functions, Gaby said, adding that his remarks were found to be satisfactory.
Israel called the series “state-sponsored incitement.” One scene from the first episode of “Ayrılık” showed a Palestinian father holding a baby above his head and an Israeli soldier deliberately shooting the infant. The second episode, broadcast this week, was reportedly edited, with scenes showing Israeli brutality cut out.
Arınç earlier suggested that he was pleased with the controversy around the series since it was likely to increase “Ayrılık” ratings. But the ratings, which indexed “Ayrılık” as the 44th most watched TV show, showed the series was not popular among the TV audience even after the political controversy.
