A reportedly drunk Sudanese national threatened a flight attendant with a knife in a failed attempt to hijack an EgyptAir flight en route from İstanbul to Cairo “to save Jerusalem” on Wednesday night.
According to reports, flight MSR 737, which departed from İstanbul Atatürk Airport at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday was about 30 minutes into its journey to Cairo when a passenger brandished a knife from the meal service at a flight attendant. The Sudanese national reportedly said he wanted to hijack the plane “to save Jerusalem.” He was subdued by security guards on board the flight, and nobody was harmed in the incident. The Boeing 737-800 aircraft, carrying 87 passengers and seven crew members, landed safely and on time in Cairo. The offending passenger, a 26-year-old, was taken into custody upon arrival for questioning.
