‘Dirty money' one more count against Uzan

22 October 2009 / TODAY’S ZAMAN, İSTANBUL
Another warrant for the arrest of Youth Party (GP) head Cem Uzan has come from an İstanbul court, this time for dealing with dirty money.
It has emerged that an Oct. 14 decision of the Şişli 3rd Criminal Court has put out a warrant for Uzan's arrest for money laundering. With several heavy penalty courts already ruling for his arrest on fraud and embezzlement charges, this is just the latest in a run of bad news for Uzan, who recently announced that he was seeking political asylum in France. This most recent decision could play an important role in a possible extradition of Uzan to Turkey from Europe, which takes financial crimes very seriously.
