Serdar Yalçın, the CEO of TÜYAP, said on Monday at the fair’s promotional meeting that he attached great importance to the organization of GOLDİSTANBUL 2010 due to the lack of well-organized events in Turkey advertising Turkish-made jewelry. He added that the experience of previous fairs in the sector had been disappointing and that TÜYAP was working on a fair the Turkish jewelry sector deserves.
“We have been working on this project for six months. We have met many businessmen in the sector and listened to their proposals and previous experiences in terms of fairs. Six members of our group visited the Hong Kong jewelry fair in addition to the one in Italy, both of which are the world’s most prestigious fairs in the jewelry sector. We have allocated $500,000 to this project from our budget,” said Yalçın.
Commenting on the general state of the jewelry sector in Turkey Yalçın said that although Turkey is not a wealthy country in terms of gold as a natural resource, Turkish designers have started to create a tremendous impression around the world. In addition, the marketing strategies of Turkish businessmen are in the process of development. The only thing which is required to improve and expand investment and the export of jewelry is a successful fair that will attract global attention.
Yalçın went on to explain the positioning of the companies in the projected fair and said there would be no “star company.” The layout of the stands will provide an equal opportunity for all participating companies to reach consumers. He also underlined that they aim to include all segments of the sector, from jewelry producers to design firms and equipment suppliers, at the fair.
The CEO thanked the head of Altınbaş gold company, İmam Altınbaş, for his encouragement and contribution to the project.
