The West has said, “You weren't able to solve the Kurdish problem with weapons, so let's see if you can solve it through politics.”
There are already many groups in Turkey who want to see this happen. As for the PKK, they long ago gave up on their demands for “independence.” And so here is a quick summary of the events at hand: The PKK militants are “turning themselves in” as part of a larger plan. Not because of any solutions, but because they are tied to Apo (Öcalan), and they are listening to his orders to return from the mountains.
