Gül's National Security Council initiative

21 October 2009 / RADİKAL AKİF BEKİ,
The president calls Baykal to the National Security Council (MGK). I am listening to Republican People's Party (CHP) members; Mustafa Özyürek says, “He cannot be a regular member.” What do we see here, though?
Condition after condition being made in all this: Baykal should be able to oppose decisions and announcements, Baykal should be able to speak outside the meeting about what went on inside. So -- they are still worried about political interests in this. The only thing they haven't asked for yet is that Baykal be allowed to attend with his camera in hand. I know the president personally. I have no doubt that he arrived at the idea of asking for Baykal to attend the meeting after considering the public interests of the nation. In fact, he may have decided that in the wake of Baykal backing out of a meeting with the prime minister, that the duty fell to him to arrange a meeting.
