20 October 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, ANKARA
Turkey's capital, Ankara, will soon have Mobile Electronic Systems Integration (MOBESE), a city information and security system that is currently being utilized in İstanbul, Ankara Police Chief Orhan Özdemir announced yesterday.
Meeting with journalists for a breakfast at the Police Education Center in Ankara, Özdemir said the Ankara Governor's Office will hold tender for the installation of 850 MOBESE cams at various points in the city. “By the end of 2010, the entire MOBESE system will be active in Ankara,” said Özdemir.

The cameras will allow 24-hour surveillance at all critical intersections, busy streets and crowded parts of the city. The system will also allow for the monitoring and tracking of suspicious-looking individuals.

The first MOBESE was installed in İstanbul, at a cost of TL 24 million. MOBESE is currently operating in the cities of İstanbul, Balıkesir, Tekirdağ-Çorlu and Isparta. The tender process has been launched for 13 other provinces, including İzmir.
