A group of Turkish doctors who organized a week-long trip to Ethiopia with the aim of carrying out medical screenings also visited an orphanage yesterday in the capital city of Addis Ababa.
The physicians gave gifts they had brought along and medicine and clothing to 30 children staying at the Hitsanta Orphanage.

The director of the orphanage, Hasan Abdullah, thanked the doctors for their help and voiced the Ethiopian people's gratitude to Turkey and Turks. He also said that like many other Muslim countries, people in Ethiopia also appreciated Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's protest against Israeli president Shimon Peres over Israeli's attacks on the Gaza Strip earlier this year.

The group also paid a visit to Necaşi Turkish College, one of four Turkish colleges operating in the country, where they were welcomed by the director, Hasan Çolak. The doctors were briefed on the school and observed some classes. There are 30 Turks working at the college, which serves 210 students, 30 of whom are boarders.

The doctors launched the health screenings on Monday through a campaign organized by The Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TİKA) in cooperation with the Physicians for Hope Foundation (ÜHDER). The group of doctors, which is composed of experts from several specialties, are carrying out the health screenings in the provinces of Shashamani and Ambo as two different teams working in the provincial hospitals.
