6 injured as ambulance, minibus collideMUĞLA On Friday, an ambulance collided with a minibus, leaving six people injured, four of them paramedics. 

Four-year-old Ceren Aydın was being rushed to Muğla State Hospital from the Ula district in an ambulance driven by Yusuf Uçar when the vehicle carrying the little girl collided with a minibus at the Sakar segment of the Muğla-Marmaris highway. The girl, her mother and four paramedics were wounded.


Drain to prevent floods filled with rubble

KONYA A drainage canal critical in preventing flooding in Konya was filled with pieces of rubble by an unknown person. Upon the discovery, the Konya Metropolitan Municipality had a 3,100-meter area of the canal cleaned out. Authorities announced that dumping such materials in the canal posed a serious danger of rendering the canal unable to fulfill its purpose of flood prevention in case of heavy rains and urged citizens to report any such incidents.

 


Police burn Gypsy tents in Bakırköy

İSTANBUL On Friday, tents set up as residences by Turkish citizens of Roma descent along the D-100 highway were burned by municipal police officers. Smoke billowed up to the sky after the officers doused the tents with gasoline and set them ablaze after having residents clear out their belongings. The shanty homes had been set up underneath an underpass. Some children reportedly protested the police move.
