Our talks with Iraq are crucial to prevent terrorism, Atalay

15 October 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, SHARM-EL SHEIKH
Turkish Interior Minister Beşir Atalay said Thursday Turkey's talks with Iraq were crucial to prevent terrorism.

Speaking to reporters before leaving Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh for Baghdad, Atalay said that Turkey nowadays was busy with its neighbors in issues such as security and counter terrorism.

We are working so that Turkey establishes the best possible relations with its neighbors. Our goal is to have zero problems and maximum cooperation with our neighbors, Atalay stressed.

Touching on the Sharm El-Sheikh meeting of the interior ministers of countries neighboring Iraq, Atalay said that the meeting focused on security problems in the region. "The issue of terror was the foremost issue discussed".

As far as terrorist attacks stemming from north of Iraq are concerned, cooperation with Iraq, Iran and Syria carries high importance for Turkey, Atalay also said.
