Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will visit Iraq this week, his office said on Monday. Erdoğan will pay a visit to Iraq on Thursday and will be accompanied by ministers and businessmen, according to a statement from the Prime Ministry. He will meet with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, the Iraqi vice presidents and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Erdoğan is expected to head to Baghdad next week for the first meeting of a joint council between Iraq and Turkey termed a “joint cabinet” meeting.
Erdoğan's visit to the Iraqi capital comes soon after the Turkish Parliament passed a government motion on Oct. 6 extending by another year a mandate to launch cross-border military operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq.
