Supporters of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist organization held demonstrations in various cities yesterday on the 10th anniversary of jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan's expulsion by Syria. Protestors held illegal demonstrations in the southern province of Mersin, chanting slogans supporting the terrorist organization.
In the Cizre district of the southeastern province of Şırnak, shop owners closed the shutters of their shops to mark the day. Nearly 40 shops were closed yesterday on İdil Street.
There were also illegal demonstrations in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır by PKK supporters. Many shops were also closed in eastern Batman province to protest Öcalan's expulsion. In eastern Hakkari and Van provinces, police took strict security measures to prevent illegal demonstrations.
