Turkish newspapers reported on Friday that police officers called a doctor to examine Güney Tuna, a university student, at the Avcılar Police Station after the incident. Instead of examining the young man, the doctor asked him how he was feeling. When Tuna said he was fine, the doctor prepared a medical report that said the young man was in good condition. However, Tuna had suffered legs fractures and a brain injury.
According to news reports, Tuna -- who studies translation at İstanbul Aydın University -- was drinking alcohol in Burcu Park with his friends last week when police approached them and asked them to leave the park. Returning to the park nearly 10 minutes later, the police saw that the young men had not left. After quarreling, they beat Tuna and took him to the Avcılar Police Station. Tuna's father, Cengiz Tuna, said he took his son to a nearby hospital after leaving the police station because his son had leg pains.
A hospital examination revealed that Güney Tuna had suffered leg fractures and a brain injury. An investigation was launched into the incident, and the police officer was arrested.
The doctor, whose name was not made public, defended himself, stating that he was forced by police officers to make said statements in the medical report. Tuna, on the other hand, complained that the doctor wrote the report without examining him.
The young man is still receiving medical care at a hospital.
