When relaying advice to some youths, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held up Jewish citizens of Turkey as an example, sharing some words from Üzeyir Garih, who was killed years ago in a terrible murder:
“We have decided two things. Number one, we will be effective in controlling knowledge, and number two, we will be effective in controlling money ...” So, money and knowledge!The prime minister noted that the Jewish citizens of Turkey “still continue to gain profit these days.” Throughout our history, there is no one single kind of Turkish Jewish citizen. There are Jewish citizens who espouse a variety of different views and work in a number of different sectors. There are religious, atheist, rich and poor Jewish people. But to portray a group of people as a stereotype or a “single type,” whether it is in the name of damning them or praising them, is both wrong and dangerous.
