Bugün: “Roadmap for the PKK from the CHP,” read the headline of the daily's main story yesterday, which reported that while the Justice and Development Party's (AK Party) Kurdish initiative was being discussed, it has turned out that the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) prepared a report on the Kurdish problem in which it explains how the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) should act. The report said the PKK should make it clear in a very convincing way that it will lay down its weapons and cease any sort of violence. “The PKK should lay down its weapons and get rid of them. The state should approach PKK terrorists who come down from the mountains with common sense. The state should not try to take revenge,” the report said.

Yeni Şafak: In its lead story yesterday, the daily reported that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sent a letter to CHP leader Deniz Baykal requesting to meet with him to discuss the government's Kurdish initiative. Erdoğan said he would like to benefit from Baykal's experience and views. “The foundation of democracy is to create a common mind through dialogue, negotiations and public debate,” Erdoğan said in his letter, adding that he was well aware of the CHP's efforts in the past to produce a solution to the Kurdish problem.

Akşam: The daily's main story yesterday was an interview with President Abdullah Gül while he was flying to Paris on Wednesday. The daily's Aslı Aydıntaşbaş, who was among the journalists on board the plane, asked Gül whether he was planning to run for president again after the end of his tenure. Gül said he was not thinking about 2012 but thinking about the present. Regarding the debates on the government's Kurdish initiative, he called on politicians not to be hurtful towards each other and noted that rapid steps need to be taken vis-à-vis the Kurdish initiative.
