9 October 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES , İSTANBUL
Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek had a working meeting with his Czech counterpart, Eduoard Janota, in İstanbul on Thursday, where he discussed relations between the two countries.
Speaking at the meeting, which was organized by Yüce Auto A.Ş., Turkey's representative of the Škoda automobile manufacturer in İstanbul, Şimşek noted that relations between Turkey and the Czech Republic should be improved in every field, adding that the trade volume between them, which currently stands at $2 billion, could also be increased. Şimşek said that there is the potential necessary to boost investments in both countries. The minister also expressed gratitude over the support the Czech Republic has lent for Turkey's European Union membership bid. Praising Turkey's successfully hosting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Annual Meetings, Janota said they wished to see Turkey as a member of the EU, too.
