The abandoned car of Sabancı University academic Dicle Koğacıoğlu was founded on İstanbul's Bosporus Bridge on Tuesday. A note was found in the woman's car, reading: “My mother, my father, [her brother] Poyraz. Forgive me. There is so much pain, I cannot hold on.” The note was given to the Koğacıoğlu family.
People crossing the bridge noticed the abandoned vehicle at around 6 a.m. and notified police. Officers responding to the scene discovered that the car belonged to Koğacıoğlu, who works in Sabancı University's faculty of art and social sciences and had recently been researching honor killings, but were unable to find her. Police teams, suspicious that she may have committed suicide, examined footage from cameras installed in various spots on the bridge, but could not find any evidence of her whereabouts. The car was taken to the parking lot of the Arnavutköy police department. Kocacıoğlu's family has filed a missing persons report, and police have launched an investigation into the incident. Coast guard teams have been searching the Bosporus over concerns that Koğacıoğlu may have committed suicide.
