Turkish Airlines and Asiana Airlines establish 'code sharing' partnership

6 October 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, İSTANBUL
Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) and South Korea's Asiana Airlines have signed an agreement that established a code sharing partnership between them.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the THY said that the agreement with Asiana Airlines would go into effect on October 25.

With the new agreement, passengers of THY would be able to fly to destinations in Asia with Asiana jets while Asiana passengers would be able to take benefit of THY flights to 119 international destinations.

"Code sharing" refers to a practice where a flight operated by an airline is jointly marketed as a flight for one or more other airlines. Most major airlines today have code sharing partnerships with other airlines and code sharing is a key feature of the major airline alliances.
