Karabulut's body, stabbed multiple times, was found decapitated in a city dumpster on March 3 by a man collecting recyclable items. Garipoğlu, who was 17 at the time of the murder, turned himself in about two weeks ago, after seven months of hiding.
According to the latest ATK report, released last week, Garipoğlu did not act alone in killing Karabulut and had the help of a member of his family during the murder. Tissue found under the victim's nails was found to carry the DNA of Cem Garipoğlu and a male relative. The prosecution has asked for another report from the ATK to establish the identity of the second person implicated.
The latest report was relayed to the prosecution last week. The report also notes that the victim's blood was found on a shirt belonging to Nida Garipoğlu, the father of the main suspect. The report states that Karabulut died from internal hemorrhaging caused by the stab wounds and from bleeding caused by cuts to her spine. The report also said that the findings led the team to conclude the Karabulut's head was sawed off while she was still alive. The prosecution has neared completion of the indictment, reports say, with the likely possibility of indicting a second member of the family for his role in the murder.
Footage, witnesses against Garipoğlu
Meanwhile, police sources have said that there was video footage proving that Garipoğlu bought the handsaw which he used to cut off the victim's head on the same day, mere hours before the murder, indicating a premeditated act. The testimony of witnesses also confirms this.
Meanwhile, the results of Garipoğlu's bone-age test, conducted on Thursday in an attempt to establish his real age, were released on Friday. According to the test, Garipoğlu is 18. However, he will still be tried as a minor because the test results confirm that he was 17 at the time of the murder.
