‘Gamer'

 

Gaming and entertainment have evolved into a terrifying new hybrid. Humans control other humans in mass-scale multiplayer online games and at the heart of the controversial games is its creator, Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall). His latest brainchild, "Slayers," allows millions to act out their most savage fantasies online in front of a global audience, using real prisoners as avatars with whom they fight to the death. Kable (Gerard Butler) is the cult hero of "Slayers." Taken from his family, imprisoned and forced to fight against his will, the modern day gladiator must survive long enough to escape the game to regain his identity and to save mankind from Castle's ruthless technology.

‘Funny People'

 

George Simmons (Adam Sandler) is a successful stand-up comedian who learns that he has a terminal disease -- and less than a year to live. Ira Wright (Seth Rogen) is a struggling up-and-coming stand-up comedian who works at a deli and has yet to figure out his onstage persona. One thing these men have in common is that neither of them have any close friends. One night George notices Ira when they perform at the same club and he hires him to be his personal assistant and opening act. They form a close bond as George teaches Ira how to win the crowd and Ira helps the dying George find closure in his life.

‘Okuribito' (Departures)

 

Daigo Kobayashi (Masahiro Motoki), a cellist in a Tokyo orchestra, loses his job when the orchestra is disbanded. He decides to sell his cello and move back to his hometown. While seeking a job, he answers an ad for a company called "Departures," mistakenly assuming it for a travel agency, but he will actually be preparing dead bodies for their “departure” from this earth. Daigo accepts the position, and his new job gradually helps him gain a greater appreciation for life.
