İncesu Canyon is located near Çorum's Ortaköy district, precisely seven kilometers from Ortaköy and 60 kilometers from the Çorum city center, and has, through history, hosted eight different civilizations. With its natural and historic beauty, this canyon leaves an indelible impression on visitors.
Though not many people knew about İncesu Canyon in the past, recent times have seen a noticeable increase in the number of people visiting this spot, and it has become one of Turkey's must-see places.

İncesu Canyon is roughly 50 meters wide and 12 kilometers long, coming to a stop in the village of İncesu itself. In fact, the most unparalleled historic and natural beauties to be found in İncesu are located at the entrance to the village.

In order to experience the best views of everything there is to see in this canyon, visitors are advised to take advantage of river tours, available on the river running through the center of İncesu Canyon. The best time of the year to do this is between June 15 and Oct. 15, when the Çekerek River is at its calmest.

Those who go down the river will see, to their right, images of the ancient goddess Cybele on the rocks above the riverbed. And thus this natural tour turns slowly into a tour of some of the historic treasures Turkey has to offer; in addition to the Cybele images, there are caves and ruins from ancient dwellings. Look particularly for the acropolis and castle ruins, which are extraordinarily beautiful.

There are also all sorts of incredible plants in İncesu Canyon just waiting to be appreciated, and tasted. There are natural figs, walnuts and blackberries -- just a small sampling of the spectrum of rich fruits that grow in this climate.

If you decide to visit İncesu Canyon between the months of October and April, the river runs higher and stronger, and visitors can raft down the canyon. There is also a canyon park, which was just completed this year and is perfect for picnics. Kır Konağı has a great children's park and picnic grounds, which help complete the İncesu Canyon's inviting tourist infrastructure.

Çorum Governor Mustafa Toprak has publicly voiced his awareness of the great potential of this local historic and natural treasure. Toprak noted that thousands of tourists, both Turkish and foreign, visit İncesu Canyon every year and that they are working on further expanding tourist offerings at İncesu, such as rafting.

Çorum Educators, Industrialists and Businessmen's Association (ÇESİAD) President Mehmet Yıldırım said his group works to promote Çorum first to Turkey and then to the world. Yıldırım noted that Çorum has "great potential" and that ÇESİAD wants to work with the local authorities and municipality to see greater strides taken to develop this potential. He also said the group was pleased by the efforts of Çorum-born residents of İstanbul in supporting their hometown.
