The gathering took place in İstanbul at the Abdi İpekçi Sports Hall. Supporters of the new movement, which has yet to organize as an official political party, greeted Sarıgül with the slogan “Prime Minister Sarıgül” as he entered the hall. In his speech, Sarıgül emphasized the party's bid to become a ruling party. He said no opposition party had the power to challenge the seat of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party).
The Şişli mayor also briefly spoke about the TDH's party line. “It is a movement that is on the side of labor, peace, democracy, freedom, justice and wealth,” Sarıgül said.
He said the TDH would be Turkey's most democratic party and would operate on the principle of commitment, not to the leader but to democracy. In his address he stated that Turkey's most important problem was unemployment, setting the combating of joblessness as their primary goal in economy.
He also said a participant quota of at least 25 percent would be ensured for women at all levels inside their party.
