Durmuş Yılmaz, the governor of the Turkish Central Bank (TCMB), was chosen as the best central bank governor of 2009 by the American weekly magazine Euromoney.
The magazine defined Yılmaz as the most ideal name that would direct Turkish economy. It described Yılmaz as "the most ideal figure to steer the wheel of Turkey's economy." Yılmaz will receive his award at Hilton Hotel in Istanbul on October 6.
Yılmaz started his term in office in 2006 after Süreyya Serdengeçti's tenure ended and followed a disciplined and tightly controlled monetary policy. His administrative abilities were tested during the harsh environment of the current global economic crisis and his performance was widely appreciated as successful in the national economy circles.
