Man imprisoned for raping wife

An İzmir court has sentenced a man, V.K., to seven years, four months in prison for raping his wife, Y.K.
Y.K. had filed a complaint with the İzmir Public Prosecutor's Office, which then sent her to the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK). A medical examination showed she had sustained injuries that would indicate rape. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, the prosecutor filed a court case against the husband for sexual assault.
Taking into consideration the ATK report and the woman's complaint, the prosecutor demanded a 12-year sentence for the defendant. Y.K., who attended the hearing with her only child, reiterated her complaint. Her husband said they had argued that night but that he did not force his wife to have sex. Y.K. has since filed for divorce.
