Parts of the tramway were temporarily closed after cables became disconnected at the Sultanahmet station. The Beyazıt-Eminönü route was inoperable while repairs were under way. Trams running from Zeytinburnu to Eminönü had to return to Beyazıt, whereas those coming from Kabataş to Beyazıt had to stop at the Eminönü station. Free bus transportation was afforded passengers from Beyazıt to Eminönü.
Akmerkez mall evacuated in electrical fire
İSTANBUL A fire reportedly caused by faulty wiring in the electrical system of well-known shopping mall Akmerkez in İstanbul triggered panic among workers on Wednesday morning. The fire began in the electrical room on the third floor of the mall. The premises were evacuated after the building started filling with smoke, and firefighters from Beşiktaş and İstinye arrived on the scene and quickly extinguished the fire. Since it was early in the morning, the mall was not crowded, which helped authorities keep the situation under control. Workers and customers returned to the building after the fire was extinguished.
Military member's car set on fire with Molotov cocktails
TUNCELİ The car of a special sergeant in the Turkish military was set on fire by unidentified people in Tunceli on Tuesday night. The perpetrators, armed with Molotov cocktails, attacked the parked car and burned it. The fire, which caused no injuries, was extinguished by Tunceli firefighters. The Tunceli Police Department's counterterrorism teams have begun to investigate the incident and have launched an operation to catch the attackers. Police have boosted security precautions in an attempt to prevent further attacks on members of the military serving in southeastern provinces.
