Kars to host German writers next month

17 September 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
The eastern Anatolian province of Kars will be the next stop on an ongoing international culture project called “EU Literature Goes to Turkey, Turkish Literature Goes to Europe,” the project's organizers announced this week.
Kars will be the sixth leg of the traveling project, organized by the Goethe Institute and financially backed by the European Commission, the Anatolia news agency reported. The Kars program, which will feature book readings and panel discussions with featured German writers, will get under way Oct 6.

A total of 48 contemporary German writers whose works have already been translated into Turkish are traveling to various Turkish cities with the project, which also features get-togethers with photographers, filmmakers and musicians. The project, which was launched in May in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, has traveled to the eastern cities of Malatya, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Van to date on an itinerary that covers 24 Turkish and eight European cities.
