The Revenue Administration (GİB) is planning to raise the percentage of the reward -- which is given according to the amount of the fine -- from 10 percent to 15 percent. According to a 1931 law, 10 percent of the reward paid to informants is from the fine taken from violators. Sources said artists from the magazine world were prominent among informants, and they were filing complaint petitions against their colleagues. Sources said the added reward is likely to increase the number of informants. GİB is also planning to use the “Alo 189” hotline more efficiently and effectively to receive calls from informants.
The economic crisis prompted more citizens this year to act as informants. In 2007, 87 informants received TL 613,000 in total, while some 135 informants received TL 1,187,000 in total last year. Between Jan. 1 and Dec. 21, 2008, 4,763 complaint petitions were received from informants. In 2007, there were 3,636 such petitions.
Finance Ministry officials decided to inspect bars, clubs and concert halls in hotels for illegal practices. However, they point out that singers often receive unregistered money, and it is not easy to detect it. So the Finance Ministry has established a special unit to watch practices in the magazine world and determine usual and legal amounts of money paid to people.
