Turkish consortium Varyap-Uzunlar has been named to build Turkish sports club Galatasaray's new sports complex in İstanbul.

Housing Development Administration of Turkey (TOKİ) Deputy Chairman Ercan Tıraş said on Friday that Varyap-Uzunlar had submitted the lowest bid in a tender in Ankara on Thursday and Friday to build the complex. Competing with four other consortiums, Varyap-Uzunlar won the tender on the final day with a revised offer of TL 179.6 million. The consortium's initial bid was TL 184 million to construct the new stadium, which will replace Ali Sami Yen Stadium in Mecidiyeköy. In August 2007 the Eren-Talu-Alke joint venture submitted the lowest bid and won the tender for construction of the Seyrantepe Sports Complex. The foundation of the new sports complex was laid on Dec. 13, 2007. The Eren Talu-Alke firm agreed to build the complex within 24 months, but on July 2, TOKİ canceled the contract with Eren Talu-Alke as they had failed to meet their contractual obligations within the designated time frame.

Galatasaray's stadium, featuring a retractable roof panel, will have the capacity to host 52,000 spectators and is expected to cost about 130 million euros. There will be a parking lot for 4,500 vehicles, including a covered section for 3,000 cars.
