Varyap-Uzunlar consortium to build Galatasaray's new sports complex
Turkey's Housing Administration (TOKİ) Deputy Chairman Ercan Tıraş said on Friday that Varyap-Uzunlar won the tender to build the complex by offering the lowest bid.
Competing with four other consortiums in the tender, Varyap-Uzunlar had offered on Thursday 184 million TL (122.4 million USD), nine million lower than closest bid, to construct the new stadium which will replace the Ali Sami Yen Stadium.
The consortium revised its bid as 179.6 million TL.
In August 2007, the Eren Talu-Alke joint venture submitted the lowest bid and won the tender for construction of the Seyrantepe Sports Complex.
The foundation of the new sports complex was laid on December 13, 2007. The Eren Talu-Alke firm committed to build the complex within 24 months.
On July 2, TOKİ annulled the contract with Eren Talu-Alke joint venture as the contractor had not fulfilled its obligations within the given period of time.
Galatasaray's stadium with a retractable roof panel will have a capacity to host 52,000 spectators, and is expected to cost about 130 million Euro. There will be a parking lot for a total of 4,500 vehicles, including a closed parking lot for 3,000 cars.
