In a press conference, Polat said that his administration was taking extra measures to ensure that the visits went smoothly and that the guests would not encounter any problems while traveling across the border on Sept. 20. “We will ensure that the process is made as easy as possible. We will monitor entrances over the border in public transportation vehicles, the routes they will travel to and their return dates and paths. We will coordinate between customs and police and gendarmerie authorities; we expect that the guests will follow the proper customs procedures as well,” he said. Polat also noted that 20,000 Syrians were expected to cross into Turkey through the Cilvegözü Border Gate to visit relatives during Eid al-Fitr.
Police cameras capture heroin sales on street
ADANA The members of a drug ring in Adana were caught red-handed when a police camera captured an entire heroin exchange second-by-second on an Adana street. The images captured by the police camera depict the entire incident, as heroin was exchanged for both money and a VCD player. Police have arrested four people in connection with the incident, including the suspected ringleader and his mother. According to reports, teams from the Adana Police Department Anti-Organized Crime Unit acting on a tip-off leanred that a drug ring lead by Cumali B. worked in the Kocavezir neighborhood of Adana's Seyhan district selling drugs. They began surveillance of Cumali B.'s home, and following 15 days of monitoring, including by camera, were able to make their arrests.
Toddler dies in Avcılar house fire
İSTANBUL A 4-year-old died in a house fire on Thursday in İstanbul's Avcılar district. A fire, the cause which has yet to be determined, began on the third floor of a five-story apartment building in Avcılar, and firefighting teams from the Avcılar, Bahçeşehir and Resneli districts responded to the alarm. Firefighters entering one of the apartments found the body of Abdülsamet Kabak, who reportedly died from smoke inhalation. The body was taken to the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for an autopsy. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
Minibus collides with truck, kills 3
TARSUS A bus carrying seasonal workers collided with a truck in Tarsus on Wednesday, leaving three people dead and 20 wounded. According to reports, the accident took place when traffic slowed along the TEM highway near the Damlama off-ramp due to another accident. The minibus, driven by Hacı Baki Özer and carrying workers from Adapazarı to Adana, rear-ended a truck driven by Sadullah Demirel. Sabriye and Cüneyt Özer died in the accident along with their son Eyüp. The front of the minibus was totaled in the collision.
