On Aug. 31, Armenia and Turkey announced that they would sign accords within six weeks under a plan to end a century of hostility, moving closer to establishing diplomatic ties and reopening their border. The issue has already been discussed at a meeting of the National Assembly's Committee on Foreign Relations, Armenian news portal News.Am noted in its report.
The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun) has proposed holding parliament hearings on Armenian-Turkish relations; however, the initiative has been supported only by the Heritage Party, the report said.
Last week, the Heritage Party demanded that the accords planned to be signed between Ankara and Yerevan should be voted on in a referendum. The party said it would start collecting signatures in parliament in support of such a vote.
