Erdoğan is expected to depart on Sept. 20, and his first stop in US will be New York, where he will participate in the 64th Session of the UN General Assembly, where he is also expected to deliver a speech. Turkey began a two-year stint as one of the 10 nonpermanent members of the UN Security Council in January and held presidency of the council for one month in June. Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States are permanent members of the UN Security Council.
Pittsburgh, Pa., which will host the G20 Summit on Sept. 24-25, will be Erdoğan's second stop in the US. US President Barack Obama will chair this meeting of leaders from countries around the world that represent 85 percent of the world's economy.
At the Pittsburgh G20 Summit, leaders will review the progress made since the Washington and London Summits and discuss further actions to assure sound and sustainable recovery from the global financial and economic crisis. During both visits, Erdoğan is expected to have bilateral meetings with leaders of participant countries. Erdoğan and Obama had talks on the sidelines of the London G20 Summit in April.
