Heavy rainfall is anticipated today in the Marmara, Aegean and West Mediterranean regions, with temperatures dropping 4 to 6 degrees. MUĞLA A British tourist was detained yesterday morning at Dalaman Airport by a Muğla Gendarmerie Command team acting on a tip. Gendarmes, aided in their search by drug-sniffing dogs, seized 265 grams of cannabis and 15 grams of cocaine transported in tea bags. M.A. Newton (55) was arrested and will be arraigned by the court.
ANTALYA A minibus carrying 13 German tourists overturned yesterday morning when the driver lost control of the vehicle en route from Antalya Airport to Alanya. All the tourists and the driver were injured in the accident. While six tourists were taken to the private Akdeniz Hospital in Manavgat and seven tourists were taken to the private Sevgi Hospital, the driver was hospitalized at Manavgat State Hospital. Among the injured tourists, Sandra Schuaz was hospitalized with a spinal cord injury; the others will reportedly be released today after spending one day under observation.
İSTANBUL Seven suspects, recently detained in İstanbul over involvement in terrorist activities of the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), were sent to the İstanbul Courthouse in Beşiktaş on Monday after being interrogated by the İstanbul Police Department's counterterrorism unit. Detainees are suspected of carrying out arson and Molotov cocktail attacks in İstanbul's Ataşehir district at various times on behalf of the PKK. In raids carried out on their homes, teams from the counterterrorism branch seized computers and hard drives containing PKK propaganda.
İSTANBUL A 64-year-old man who was charged with raping a girl in İstanbul's Beykoz district has reportedly committed suicide at the district police station by jumping out of a third-floor window. He was brought to the station after being taken into custody. O.L. died at the scene, and his body was taken to the morgue of the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for an autopsy. The girl, who disappeared several days ago, was found in a park and told her parents that she was raped by a man. After she testified to the police, O.L. was taken into custody and in a search police conducted at his house, hundreds of photographs and CDs containing child pornography were seized.
KAYSERİ A 13-year-old has reportedly given birth to a daughter in Kayseri's Bünyan district, where she had come to work as a seasonal agricultural laborer. D.Ç. was taken to a Kayseri hospital when she went into labor and gave birth to a baby girl upon arrival. The girl was found to be living with K.Ç., whom she married through an imam marriage, a religious marriage carried out by a religious leader and not recognized under Turkish law. K.Ç., 17, was taken into custody and charged with sexually assaulting a child. Mother and child are reportedly in good condition.
