Answering reporters' questions during Vice Adm. Mehmet Otuzbiroğlu's visit to the Governor's Office yesterday, Güler said they will release a statement when Garipoğlu is found. “We are continuing our intensive efforts to catch him. We are still sensitive to the issue. It is necessary to avoid giving statements that may affect the process without having enough information. We are doing our best to track him down,” he said. The body of 18-year-old Karabulut was found decapitated in a bag inside a dumpster in İstanbul's Etiler district on March 5, with her head inside a guitar case on top of the bag. Since then police have been searching for her boyfriend, Cem Garipoğlu, in connection with the murder. Some have speculated that it is possible that the well-connected Garipoğlu family was able to get the young man out of Turkey despite alerts at Turkish borders.
In early May, an Interpol red notice was posted for Garipoğlu's arrest. Later in May, Turkish Interpol posted a blue notice requesting information on the whereabouts and activities of Garipoğlu's mother, sister and brother, who all currently reside in Russia, due to the possibility that they may meet with Garipoğlu and help him escape from the police.
