THY kicks off direct flights to Jakarta

Mehmet Şimşek
7 September 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
Turkish Airlines (THY) has added the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta to its direct flight destinations, as the first flight on the new route took off this weekend, with Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek and a number of deputies on board.

THY will conduct flights to Jakarta five times a week -- on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. With Jakarta, the number of foreign destinations THY flies to has grown to 119.

Having landed in Jakarta, Minister Şimşek and the deputies had a chance to enjoy a trip in the city, visiting a safari park and a botanical garden. During his journey in the safari park, which includes a vast field and a mountain, the minister had a chance to pet ligers and the cubs of other wild animals. The minister and the deputies with him later headed to a botanical garden.

On their way back from the garden, Şimşek stopped his car by Indonesian women collecting tea leaves on a farm and joined them after putting on a straw hat.
