Meanwhile, 87 people share a name with main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal and 77 people with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. No other Turkish citizen, however, carries the same first and last name as Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli.
According to the same data, 440,339 people bear the name Abdullah. Another 2,150 carry the name Recep Tayyip, while 63,457 are called Deniz and 3,769 Devlet.
Between 2005 and 2008, the families of 14,928 newborns named their sons Abdullah. This figure was 403 for Recep Tayyip, 8,134 for Deniz and 52 for Devlet.
While the number of babies named after the Turkish prime minister was 57 in 2005, this figure dropped to 44 in 2006. However, it soared to 146 in 2007 and to 156 in 2008.
Similarly, the number of babies given the same name as the CHP leader saw an increase, especially in 2007 and 2008. A total of 1,915 newborns were given the name Deniz in 2007 and 2,521 in 2008. Only 15 babies were named Devlet in 2005. This figure was 10 in 2006, 13 in 2007 and 14 in 2008.
