Turkey to become production base of Total subsidiary

3 September 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES, İSTANBUL
French oil giant Total is building a plant in northwestern Turkey for its subsidiary Bostik, an adhesives and sealants manufacturer, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

Turkey will become a production base in the region -- covering Eastern Europe, the Middle East and North Africa -- for Bostik, a worldwide division of the oil, gas and chemicals company Total, with a production facility in Çorlu in Tekirdağ province, the company said.

Bostik is a leading firm in the manufacture and supply of adhesives, sealants, tape and laminating products for the construction, transportation and packaging industries.

The company's operations will shift from France and Germany to Turkey after the Çorlu plant is completed in 2011, the statement said.

Bostik entered the Turkish market in 2005 after acquiring Turkish chemicals company Çuhadaroğlu Kimya and its brand Çekomastik. Bostik later took over another Turkish company, Tekbau, now operating under the Bostik name.
