EXHIBITIONS  An exhibition displaying maps that were produced by Ottoman experts from admiral and cartographer Piri Reis to scholar and geographer Katip Çelebi is on view at Panora and Karum shopping malls in Ankara from Sept. 1 to 7.
The exhibition, prepared to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Katip Çelebi's birth, showcases 35 maps.

 A new collection of paintings by contemporary Turkish painter Metin Çelik is set to be displayed at Galeri Artist Çukurcuma in the Beyoğlu district from Sept. 5 to 25. For more information: 0212 251 9163

 The newest collection of paintings by contemporary Turkish artist Hasan Mirza is on view at İstanbul's Gallery Artist Çukurcuma in Beyoğlu until Sept. 4. Tel.: (212) 251 9163

 İstanbul's Beyoğlu Municipality Art Gallery is home to an exhibition of traditional Turkish art, including calligraphy, gilding, ebru (paper marbling) and miniature painting by 41 present-day artists until Sept. 18. The gallery is located on İstiklal Street No: 437.

 The Almelek Art Gallery in İstanbul's Bebek neighborhood hosts a selection of works by famous Turkish painters in its annual summer exhibition, which this year runs through Sept. 26. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Tel: (212) 265 3851

 A selection of 110 works of art by 66 students, lecturers and alumni of the New York School of Visual Arts is on view at a contemporary art exhibition titled “Octet” at İstanbul's Pera Museum until Oct. 4. The museum is open every day except Mondays.

 The “Mixed Turkish Handicrafts” exhibition is on display at Airport Outlet Center in İstanbul's Bakırköy district. Works of art by more than 10 artists in such styles as calligraphy and ebru are offered in the exhibition.

PERFORMING ARTS

 The Anadolu Ateşi (Fire of Anatolia) dance company is staging “Anadolu Ateşi -- Evolution,” an updated version of the company's long-running eponymous show “Anadolu Ateşi,” through Aug. 28 in open-air theaters in Marmaris, Bodrum, Çeşme and Antalya. For dates and tickets, check www.biletix.com.

FESTIVALS

 The Unirock Festival is launching a new rock music fest called Unirock Extreme this autumn in İstanbul. The one-day event, scheduled for Oct. 3 at the Maçka Küçükçiftlik Park open-air festival area, will feature performances by nine rock acts from Turkey and the world. Among the headlining acts will be Finnish bands Kalmah, Legion of the Damned and Graveworm.

CONCERT

 World-famous British singer Sami Yusuf, dubbed “Islam's biggest rock star” by Time magazine, will be in İstanbul next month for a special concert during Ramadan. The singer-songwriter will take to the Cemil Topuzlu Open-air Theater stage on Sept. 4 in what will be his first Turkey appearance in two years. Tickets, with prices ranging from TL 56 to TL 215, can be purchased at Biletix sales points.

 Turkish pop singer and songwriter Bülent Ortaçgil will be on stage at Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center in İstanbul's Kadıköy district on Saturday. The concert starts at 8.30 p.m. For detailed information, visit www.nazimhikmetkulturmerkezi.org.

 Kardeş Türküler, a well-known folk music ensemble praised for its wide repertoire of ethnic music compiled from Anatolia, will perform a concert at the Gümüşlük Academy in the famous resort town of Bodrum. The tickets are priced between TL 55 and 60.
