Aiming to end noise pollution in residential areas, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry has prepared an “Environmental Noise Action Plan” to tackle the noise problem. The plan sets forth a ban or limitation on entertainment that causes noise pollution, including in such places as nightclubs and industrial facilities.A joint effort by the Interior Ministry, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and local municipalities hopes to stamp out noise pollution starting from sites such as entertainment venues along the Bosporus and nightclubs in coastal cities, where most complaints come from.
No matter what name it goes by, street entertainment will not be tolerated near residences, cultural and educational centers, healthcare facilities, hotels, roadside rest stops and parks. Any open-air entertainment incorporating loud music, drums, the zurna (a double-reed oboe-like instrument), fireworks or firecrackers, including street weddings and celebrations, will be disallowed. These activities will only be allowed in places at a sufficient enough distance from buildings such as schools and hospitals. Cars without a muffler will also not be allowed to enter traffic.
