Forum seeks to help Pakistan

25 August 2009 / AP, İSTANBUL
Pakistan is campaigning for investment at an international forum in Turkey, saying development can help to curb extremist violence there.

The conference held by the "Friends of Democratic Pakistan" group on Tuesday includes delegates from 20 nations as well as the United Nations and other international institutions.

Among those attending are the foreign ministers of Turkey, Pakistan and Canada, and Richard Holbrooke, the U.S. special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Pakistan is pitching projects in energy, institution-building and other areas, and seeks help from the private and state sectors of nations in the "Friends" group.
