“It is out of the question that the third bridge would have a negative impact on the city's natural areas,” Eroğlu said on Saturday. When asked about the potential damage the projected third Bosporus bridge would cause to İstanbul's forests, Eroğlu said great efforts have been put into preparing a project that would not harm the environment. “I spoke with the minister of transportation about the third bridge personally. As you all know, I am very passionate about environmental issues. We will continue to share with you [media members] any future developments,” Eroğlu said.Earlier this week, Gürsel Tekin, head of the Republican People's Party's (CHP) İstanbul branch, announced that his party had learned the route of the third bridge and claimed that if the bridge is constructed accordingly, it would pose a devastating threat to the city's forests and natural resources.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, however, said on Friday that the government has yet to determine the final route of the third bridge. He also added that the government is determined to protect İstanbul's natural resources.
