Led by the Atatürk Airport Taxi Cooperative, taxi drivers plan to hold an enormous rally for the first time this October. Fed up with unregistered taxis, whose number is three times higher than officially registered taxis, taxi drivers plan to hold a large demonstration to make their voice heard. Before the March local elections, the Atatürk Airport Taxi Drivers Cooperative, the largest taxi organization in Turkey and in Europe, proposed lifting the license charge collected annually by İBB.
After becoming a spokesperson for the sector by pursuing a decisive stance during the process of eliminating vehicle plate restrictions, the Atatürk Airport Taxi Drivers Cooperative now plans a demonstration against unregistered taxis, whose use, they say, has risen to an unbearable extent.
Unable to get a satisfactory response from official institutions and associations through their letters, sector representatives will bring thousands of people to Çağlayan Square on Oct. 11. Preparations are under way for the demonstration, to which everyone who “cannot stand injustice” is invited. The rally is expected to be massive.
