Human skulls from Hittite period unearthed in Mersin

Archeologists unearthed two skulls belonging to Hittite period in Yumuktepe tumulus in the southern province of Mersin.

Excavation team's head Italian Prof. Isabella Caneva told the Anatolia news agency on Sunday that they found two skulls from Hittite period, and seals from Neolithic period in Yumuktepe tumulus which was one of the oldest settlement areas of Anatolia.

Caneva said that the skulls remained from 1,500 BC, and the two seals from 6,500 BC which were rare in Anatolia.

Caneva added that the seals were among important findings which had been unearthed in Turkey so far.

This year's excavation in Yumuktepe tumulus will be completed on September 3.
