Speaking to the Anatolia news agency on Wednesday, Antalya Tax Office head Mamut Sütçü said a group of 117 Finance Ministry inspectors carried out audits on tourism facilities suspected of tax irregularities and violation of the Private Institution Law.
Sütçü said the audits covered 10,867 taxpayers in the province, involving hotel, bar, restaurant, spa and sports center managers. He said the auditors filed 5,671 official files concerning the irregularities thus far. “We have also detected a discrepancy of TL 128 million between the taxes paid and the actual income reported to the tax office. Stamp taxes constitute 70 percent of the total evaded tax,” he said, adding that the audits had discovered that 172 individuals had not filed their taxes. He also noted that the auditors inspected some 247 tobacco and alcohol dealers, noting that the audits were focused on tax labels, cash registers, manager and worker salaries and unregistered employment.
