Ulusal Kanal official Teoman Alili detained

14 August 2009, Friday /TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH WIRES
One of the top administrators of Ulusal Kanal was detained yesterday as part of the investigation into Ergenekon, a shadowy network nested within the state that aimed to create chaos to incite an eventual military takeover.

Sources indicate that Teoman Alili was detained at his home and taken to the İstanbul Police Department on Vatan Street.

In March of last year, Ulusal Kanal television station representative Hayati Özcan was taken into custody in İzmir.

Officials said some documents and CDs were also seized from the Ulusal Kanal office by the police during a raid at the time.

The police raided the offices of Ulusal Kanal and the Aydınlık newsweekly over alleged links to the criminal network. Emcet Olaytu, the legal adviser for neo-nationalist journal Aydınlık and Ulusal Kanal, was also taken into custody in September of last year.
