Sinirlioğlu to become new Foreign Ministry undersecretary

24 July 2009 / TODAY'S ZAMAN, ANKARA
As has long been anticipated, Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioğlu, currently deputy undersecretary for Middle East affairs, will become the new undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry after the current undersecretary, Ambassador Ertuğrul Apakan, goes to New York to serve as Turkey's new permanent representative to the UN.

The appointment of these senior diplomats to new posts at the Foreign Ministry as part of a routine reshuffle will officially take effect when the relevant decree is published in the Official Gazette.

Another deputy undersecretary, Ambassador Selim Kuneralp, who is currently responsible for economic relations, will be posted to Brussels, replacing Ambassador Volkan Bozkır as Turkey's permanent representative to the European Union. Bozkır, meanwhile, will become the new head of the Secretariat-General for EU Affairs (ABGS).

According to the ministry, Turkey's consul general in Mosul, Iraq, Hüseyin Avni Botsalı, will be posted to Cairo as ambassador; Turkey's Ambassador to Greece Oğuz Çelikkol will replace Ambassador Namık Tan in Tel Aviv, who will in turn return to ministry headquarters as a deputy undersecretary; Ambassador Hasan Göğüş will become Turkey's new ambassador in Athens; Turkey's current ambassador to the United Arab Emirates will also become a deputy undersecretary; and Ambassador Ecvet Tezcan, currently deputy undersecretary at the ministry headquarters, will be posted to Vienna.
