Titled “A'dan Z'ye Sabahattin Ali” (Sabahattin Ali from A to Z) and written by Sevengül Sönmez, the book details Ali's personality, his relationships, milestones in his life and career, his works and comments about the author through rare documents, some of which are being made public for the first time. The book also discusses Ali's views on literature and arts, his political stance and his skills as a writer. The book is the result of a long and meticulous process studying personal documents of the author, previously kept private by the author's widow, Aliye, and their daughter, Filiz. The book also references legal documents and interviews people who personally knew Ali, who published three novels, eight books of short stories and dozens of poems before his death on April 2, 1948, at the age of 41. Ali, one of the pioneers of the socialist movement in Turkish literature, was shot to death while trying to cross the Turkish border to Bulgaria following a period of unemployment and financial hardship that was a result of a three-month imprisonment for one of his articles. The book also recounts the pressure his family encountered following Ali's death. The book contains previously unpublished documents kept by Ali's family, including photographs, sketches and reading lists. The book also contains a bibliography of Ali's works, a list of his books that have been translated into other languages and published abroad and movies and theater plays adapted from the author's works.
