23 July 2009 / THE ANATOLIA NEWS AGENCY, ANKARA
Macedonian Minister without Portfolio Hadi Neziri said on Thursday that, "Balkans, particularly Macedonia, is a gate to Europe for Turkey."

"Turkey has been supporting Macedonia in military, economic and political areas," Neziri and lawmaker Kenan Hasip said in an exclusive interview with the Anatolia news agency.

Neziri said they gained the right to represent Turks living in Macedonia in 2008 parliamentary elections, noting that they were in an effort to boost relations between Turkey and Macedonia.

Neziri said investments by Turkish businessmen in Macedonia were discussed at a 3-day meeting last May in Ohri, "TAV company planned to make 200 million euro investment, Sisecam planned to make an investment of 45 million euro and Bor Teknik company is expected to make an investment of 20 million euro in Macedonia."

Neziri said, "Macedonian citizens will not be obliged to get visa while entering EU countries next year. Macedonia will be a member of the EU and NATO soon. Accession of Macedonia to EU will be easy because of its 2 million population," and expressed gratefulness over Turkey's support to Macedonia for its NATO membership bid.

Hasip, chairman of the Democratic Party of Turks (TDP), said his party was trying to preserve religion, language, culture, customs and traditions of the Turks in Macedonia.

Hasip said his party had been represented in the Macedonian parliament since 2002, noting that, "names of people are now written in the identity cards in Turkish and December 21 was declared as national day of the Macedonian Turks."

"We want Turkish capital to boost in Macedonia. Unemployment is one of the biggest problems of the Turks in Macedonia. 20 percent of our people live and work in other countries," Hasip said.
